Water Water Everywhere

Difficult Waterlogging

If you feel the waterlogging is exceptionally bad, you could also ask the builder to cover the stripped area with a layer of horticultural grit, to a depth of 1", before covering then with a 4" layer of loamy topsoil and then returfing.

The layer of gravel would help to take the water out from the surface of the turf. This would also be better done from spring onwards. If there is a patio all the way along the edge of the lawn, and the lawn slopes towards the house, you may find that a lot of water collects here.

You could ask the builder to install a drain along the edge of the patio, with a grill on top, to catch some of this water. This would be in addition to the other remedies I have described, since on its own this would not solve the problem over the rest of the lawn.
