Paving Essentials

They make it look so easy on Ground Force don't they?

Great expanses of perfectly level paving slabs are created within a couple of hours to the accompaniment of relaxing music.

For most of us however the job of laying paving slabs is entirely less straightforward.

So for all you gardeners out there who have the enthusiasm for a new seating area or path, but do not know how to get started on your grand garden plans, fear not!

The StyleGardens team has put together a step by step guide to the essentials of paving which we hope will enable you to avoid some of the pitfalls and produce some really professional results.

PLEASE READ

Safety Tips : Paving Slabs can be very heavy and cause injury if they are lifted incorrectly. Ensure that when lifting the slabs your back is straight and your legs take the strain. StyleGardens recommends that slabs which are over 600 x 600mm should be carried by two people.

Dry and damp cement can cause skin irritation and burns. Because of this, you should always wear protective clothing and strong gloves whilst handling these materials.

Make sure that paving slabs are stored in close proximity to the site which is to be paved. This minimises the length of time that you will have to carry the slabs, thus reducing the risks of muscle or back strain and also reducing the risk of breaking the slabs.
