The
Design:
The
existing brick wall is removed to open out a much larger patio area
at the back of the house. The riven paving has a random pattern,
which together with the brick edging used, matches the Victorian
house well.
One
step up from the patio leads to the main area of the garden where
two overlapping circular lawns edged in brick, give the garden much
more width and interest, and where there are no awkward corners
or exposed edges making lawn maintenance very easy.
The
border to the right wraps around the newly shaped lawns and continues
right up to the rear gate accommodating existing and new specimen
planting, but allows the charm of the existing stone wall still
to be enjoyed.
To
the left of the garden and in front of the garage a circular patio
is tucked in next to a raised bed, and provides a cosy seating area
for enjoying the evening sun. Privacy is increased by adding a trellis
screen to the wall behind which supports climbers, and by extending
the border out partially obscuring the view in from the side gate.
A gravel
path adds texture and provides a dry route leading from the main
patio, past the circular patio, to the garage door and then on to
the back gate.
Further
development:
The
garden can be further developed with additional planting, possibly
some that will creep through the gravel. Groups of pots with sun
loving plants can be placed on the main patio, and permanent seating
will provide a resting place for enjoying the garden whenever the
sun shines.
