Mediterranean Style Gardens

I have just moved into a new house and the garden still looks like a building site. I would love to have it looking good for the summer but I want as little lawn as possible. I was thinking of having a Mediterranean style garden perhaps?

Mediterranean gardens can look great all year round, and often require very little maintenance, especially if they are established in gravel which has been laid on top of membrane, or landscaping fabric, which keeps perennial weeds under control.
