Lighting

This is essential in order to make the most of your garden at night.

There is a huge range of outdoor lights to choose from, either solar-powered or running from low voltage cable.

Uplighters can be positioned under wall-mounted water features, trees or large shrubs to highlight them.

Underfloor lights can be set into decking, paving or even grass to accent different areas and cast a glow over surrounding planting. Globe lights drifting amongst the planting make the most of favourite plants which can then be enjoyed at a different time of day.

TIP: If you're relaying paving slabs next to the house, run some low-voltage cable underneath and store in an empty ice-cream container, tucked away at the back of a border, if you're not planning to install lighting yet.

This means that if you do decide to light up the garden later on, the wire is already in place.
