SEPTEMBER
The holiday season is well and truly
over, the children have gone back to school and the lawn has probably
suffered from some wear and tear, which may need some attention.
This can be fixed easily with Westland's Lawn Repair Kit.
Remember autumn is nature's time for planting shrubs and trees.
Therefore, you need to prepare the ground. Dig up bedding
without digging up the weeds as these can be sprayed with weedol
trigger spray, but remember that the spray has to stay on the leaf
for at least 6 hours so choose a dry day.
OCTOBER
With October soon on its way, you might want
to start planting some spring flowering bulbs in containers
or in the open. If naturalising in the grass, cut a H shape in the
grass and fold back the flaps. Loosen the soil underneath and mix
in some bone meal (£2.49 per 1.5Kg). Press the bulbs into
the soil, cover with the grass and firm. As a general rule when
planting bulbs, plant them 2-3 times deeper than the size of the
bulb. Don't forget to call into StyleGardens and select your
bulbs for a beautiful display of colour in your garden next spring.
Remember; always buy bulbs when they are fresh, healthy and firm
with no signs of disease or insect damage.
NOVEMBER
As the weather gets colder in November, raise
outdoor containers on feet to keep them clear of the ground;
this helps them survive frost and aids drainage. Even when the weather
gets cold, your garden can still provide you with interest and
colour. Keep the edges of your lawn neat and tidy and your garden
will look cared for right throughout the coming months.
DECEMBER
When December arrives, Christmas is just around
the corner. Tidy up around trees and shrubs. Weed easily by using
weedol so that you have nice clear beds all year round. Plan your
flowerbeds remembering to keep in mind the colour theme you have
chosen.
Indoors, why not treat yourself this year to a real Christmas
tree. Go on, it has been the tradition for over 400 years. They
can look spectacular when dressed up. Remember to water so that
the tree stays healthy and doesn't lose its needles.
Potted plants are another way to brighten up those dark days in
the house and can be a great Christmas present. The most popular
is the Poinsettia they are the symbol of Christmas indoors.
They were named after its discoverer - J R Poinsett, he was a US
politician.
Another symbol of Christmas, which is popular when used as wreaths
for your door, is the holly. Holly was regarded as an excellent
form of protection specifically against evil spirits, poisons and
even against thunder & lightning.
