It's Bulb Planting time

On dark, rainy evenings in winter, conjure up thoughts of sunshine by ordering your spring bulbs, which should be planted as soon as possible after they arrive.

The less time they lie around as dry bulbs the better, and if planted now, spending autumn in the ground gives them time to settle in and produce strong root systems before the onset of winter.

Good quality bulbs should be firm and healthy with undamaged growing tips, few or no visible roots and no sign of disease or damage.

Following the instructions you receive with the bulbs, scatter the contents of the pack over a section of the border to ensure a natural-looking display, and dig a hole where they land, from 7 - 20 cm deep for each bulb. (A useful rough guide is to plant the bulb 3 times deeper than its height).

Place each bulb in the hole so that the flat base, which will produce roots, is at the bottom, and the pointed tip at the top!

Don't worry about planting too deeply - the shoots will find their way to the top eventually, and deeper planting has its advantages - stems are less likely to bend or snap, and the bulbs are less likely to be disturbed during the summer by other planting being carried out.

Choose from our wide range of bulbs, and sit back and wait for them to be delivered to your door ready for a weekend of activity in the garden!

Happy Gardening!
